Special Interest Sections

Therapists may use the Special Interest Sections to network with other therapists or experts in these areas for the purpose of sharing and improving assessment and treatment skills and tools, through on line forums, book/article reviews, mentoring or job shadowing, or hosting or presenting a topic of interest through an in-service supported by ConnOTA. SIS Chairperson - Donna Reed Oliver

The SIS Chairperson is responsible for coordinating the SIS Liaisons and sessions to meet members  interests and needs for continuing education outside of our fall and spring conferences. 

Children & Youth

The Children and Youth SIS encompasses all aspects of early development from birth to age 21. Therapists working in this area may include, home, school or community based settings with specific focus on facilitating increased functional performance and independence.

The Mental Health SIS encompasses all aspects of mental health. Therapists working with clients in this area may include the hospital, outpatient, home or community based settings with specific focus on facilitating increased functional performance and independence.

Productive Aging

The Productive Aging SIS encompasses all aspects of the aging process, with a specific focus on the aging adult. Therapists working with clients in this area may include the skilled nursing arena, hospital, outpatient, home or community based settings with specific focus on facilitating increased functional performance and independence.

Rehabilitation, Disability and Participation

The Rehabilitation, Disability and Participation SIS may encompass technical skills and approaches in current practice, such as dysphagia, aquatic rehab, driver re- education, electrical modalities, NDT, lymphedema, low vision etc.. with a specific focus on the adult. Therapists working with clients in this area may include the SNF, hospital, outpatient, home or community based settings with specific focus on facilitating increased functional performance and independence.

Reimbursement, Administration and Management 

The Reimbursement, Administration and Management SIS encompasses the management of financial and human resources, and development of leadership skills for effective and efficient delivery of Occupational Therapy Services. Therapists working in this area may include the SNF, hospital, outpatient, home or community based settings.

Technology 

The Technology SIS encompasses all aspects of modern technology and its use in the delivery or management of Occupational Therapy Services. Therapists working with clients in this area may include the SNF, hospital, outpatient, home or community based settings with specific focus on seating and mobility, augmentative communication, adaptive computer access. Technology use in the clinic or educational setting for efficient and effective communication, data management , human resource management etc. may also be a focus.
